Adam ?tok Designs a Set of Chairs Formed by a Hydraulic Press
Adam ?tok of Prague-based studio vono explores new ways of using the hydraulic press and the result is a new set of chairs called Nyiny.
Hydraulic presses are nothing new in the manufacturing industry but how they’re used has been evolving in recent times thanks to those willing to think outside the box. Adam ?tok of Prague-based studio vono is one of those people who chose to explore new ways of using the technology and the result is a new set of chairs called Nyiny.
The Nyiny chairs stand out by displaying the swift transition from a tube shape to flat on the chair’s backrest. By flattening the material as it extends up from the back legs, the backrest becomes more comfortable to lean against as it contours the body. It takes a mere 30 seconds of local compression of a single piece of tubular steel to form the back legs and backrest. Once molded, that component is attached to the rest of the pre-prepared parts to form the finished chair.
