Mario Tsai?s Pig Side Table Was Inspired by the Piggy Bank
A trip to the metal market and a piggy bank were the inspiration behind this side table.
While on a trip to the metal market, designer Mario Tsai’s curiosity was piqued when he spotted stacks of thick aluminum tubes. He decided to purchase a 250mm diameter tube and when he stuffed his other purchases inside to carry, it reminded him of the ease of sliding a coin into a piggy bank. The Pig Side Table was designed with all that in mind.
The side table, designed for mx object, begins with the very tube that inspired it. Four legs were added, just like on a piggy bank, along with a circular surface to become a functional side table with a story.
Not only does the aluminum tube hold books and other stuff, the tabletop offers additional space for a drink or tchotchkes, all while resembling a pig, or as Tsai says, “a pig with a hat.”
