Hand Built and Highly Limited Grado Labs White Headphone
A dash of 60s nostalgia paints these headphones with a mod aesthetic, best enjoyed for listening sessions at home.
Grado Labs’ reputation for audiophile grade headphones is one well discussed online. The Brooklyn-based Grado family has been hand building headphones since 1953, and they’ve recently announced their swan song release (for 2019, not forever): The White Headphone ? a statement piece inspired by a legendary band and one of their most iconic albums.
White stitching across a large leather headband gives this set of headphones a premium feel and look.
While Grado Labs attributes the minimalist, over-ear headphone design to The Beatles’ White Album, there’s also a bit of Stormtroopers aesthetic happening here thanks to the inclusion of maple wood platter outer enclosures finished in white capping a pair of 50mm drivers, each fed from a 12-conductor cable.
Grado has kept features appropriately old school, forgoing the integration of voice assistant, wireless connectivity, or ANC technology, focusing on an open back design intended to be enjoyed in the privacy of one’s home.
I’m thrilled to have been able to finally bring this headphone to reality. The inspiration goes back to my youth and my love of music, especially rock & roll in the 1960s. Though 50 years have passed, it never gets old. I enjoyed it then and it has inspired me now.
