Neo-Gothic Addition to Ahmedabad Bungalow
Indian practice Hsc Designs has extended a bungalow in Ahmedabad with a faceted, metal-clad structure “injecting a sense of playfulness and dynamism” into the neighbourhood.
Named Symbiotic Parasite, the extension contains living spaces for a young couple alongside a renovated garage, brought together by a patio with arcaded openings, sheltered by the faceted volume’s overhanging roof. Symbiotic Parasite has a neo-Gothic aesthetic, creating an “architectural gem” in Ahmedabad “nestled within the bustling neighbourhood”.
Resulting Structure Has an “Avant-Garde Design Language”
Based on the structure of a pumpkin-like canopy that once sat in the same spot, the design retains its original dark metal frame but replaces the canopy with a structure that, while attached to the bungalow, still touches the ground.
