Badlands Home: A Bright and Fresh Intervention in Ontario

The Badlands Home, a beautifully designed house located in Toronto, Canada, is the latest project from the BLDG Workshop.
Surrounded by the rolling hills of Caledon Ontario, the house was designed to frame views over the countryside while also paying homage to the local Caledon Badlands. Clean minimalistic volumes and white vinyl windows give the house a bright, fresh look that complements the many months of snow the area gets.
About Badlands Home
Revamping a Caledon Countryside Home
The client desired to frame views over the Caledon countryside, allowing for certain points of view and rejecting others. They also wanted to reference the nearby Caledon Badlands in the overall design.
Creating a White Aesthetic
To create the client?s desired white aesthetic, vinyl windows were chosen – an unexpected choice for the climate, but one that worked out perfectly. Moreover, this project was designed to feel bright and fresh, a modern intervention on the slow-rolling hills of Caledon. Clean and Minimal Volumes
The client?s main priority was for the volumes to be clean and minimal. The goal was to create an interior space that was encompassed by these volumes, rather than a specific massing. The overall aesthetic works well with the snow that this project receives during the colder months.
