The Quirk Hotel Charlottesville Serves as a Blank Canvas for Local Art + Culture

The Quirk Hotel Charlottesville showcases local art talents in a way that permeates beyond its on-site gallery and throughout the hotel.

Designed by ARCHITECTUREFIRM, the Quirk Hotel, in Charlottesville, Virginia was designed as a gallery hotel, one that prides itself on being a blank canvas to be filled with art by local artists that can then be appreciated by locals and travelers alike. Rather than creating an interior that would distract from the art, ARCHITECTUREFIRM kept the interiors simple with clean white walls and let the architecture of the building shine through.

Even from the street, one can detect the beauty and drama of the lobby, which features a series of split arches that serve as the organization and wayfinding through the lobby. Each set of arches direct guests to the other spaces off the main lobby, including the restaurant, ballrooms and elevator lobby to take guests to their rooms or the rooftop bars. The lobby also consists of the front desk, a lobby bar, multiple lounge spaces and a retail shop.
Throughout the hotel, including the public spaces and the private rooms, local art adorn the walls, spotlighting the sophisticated art and diverse culture of the area. On the lower level, guests local and abroad can visit the Quirk Gallery, a rotating gallery designed to further showcase the local talent and create an inclusive environment for all to appreciate art.
