Superyacht Design + British Saddlery Equals the Collezione La Selle
Poltrona Frau and Winch Design join together to design Collezione La Selle, a pair of chairs inspired by British saddlery.
Question: What happens when a furniture manufacturer and superyacht design brand come together for a collaboration" The answer: Collezione La Selle. Poltrona Frau and Winch Design have released the first two pieces in the collection, a dining chair and lounge chair made with a slatted walnut frame, saddle hide leather, and cushions in upholstery leather. The design of both chairs brings together English heritage, Windsor chairs, and traditional saddlery.
Winch Design’s Senior Furniture and Product Design Lead, Michael Noah, spent time with a saddle maker, then incorporated some of those references into the designs. Equestrian design can be found across many industries, in this case the seat pad references saddle construction and the strap detailing, contrast stitching, stud details, and saddle bag pocket enhance the aesthetic. These details were brought to life by Poltrona Frau’s artisans, translated to work in today’s interiors. You’ll notice more equestrian elements in the construction of the chairs’ frames, which use dowels that reference stable doors. Designs can be customized in different colors and woods to create a truly unique feel.
