Sky Villages encourages children to build architectural structures from blocks as part of an interactive installation.

James Paulius appeared on Design Milk several years ago as part of the Metaproject 03 student challenge at the Rochester Institute of Technology where his Blockitecture wooden blocks won. As a result, the blocks are now sold at Areaware. His latest project, Sky Villages, builds on the same idea of allowing children (or adults!) to build architectural structures from blocks as part of an interactive installation at the SPARK Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
The installation invites children to explore and build clustered villages out of interlocking, building-like blocks. The nature of the design encourages creativity, problem solving, and three-dimensional thinking, all of which stimulate a child’s mind and imagination.

The blocks were made out of reclaimed Douglas fir wood that was salvaged from NYC water towers.
