Ocean Memories by Mathieu Lehanneur
Ocean Memories is an exhibition of minimalist works by Mathieu Lehanneur on display at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris.
Ocean Memories is a minimalist exhibition by Paris-based designer Mathieu Lehanneur on display at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris. As the name suggests, the pieces have a wave-like surface that is created by the artist chipping blocks off the top of the marble and bronze tables using 3D software and machine cutting.
The tabletop is hand-polished to reveal a glossy finish, transitioning from a matte flat surface to a wavy glossy surface. The sculptures beautifully capture the turbulent nature of currents, while juxtaposing against a calm and serene surface. Designed digitally, the white and black marble blocks or polished bronze pieces reflect the environment and distort surrounding light. As described by the gallery, “Through this new collection, Mathieu Lehanneur plays a permanent balance between geometric and organic.”
