The designer of the Ella & Louis murphy bed, Pierluigi Colombo, works as Art Director and Senior Product Designer at Clei ? the company his father founded in 1963. The elder Colombo saw the murphy bed?s potential, but decided the operating mechanisms and overall design needed an overhaul. Since then, Clei has been developing a variety of transformable systems: fold-away tables, morphing bunk beds, even a revolving queen-sized bed with a shelving system. After studying architecture and design, Pierluigi expanded upon on his father?s idea and created Clei?s first wall bed with an integrated sofa.
