A Flat-Packed Café Chair Is Made up of Just Six Parts
Designed by Stellar Works and BassamFellows, the Pagoda Chair is a modern East meets West interpretation of the café chair.
Flat-packed furniture, while convenient and sustainable for shipping purposes, sometimes gets associated with poor quality and a lack of design. This is not so in the case of Pagoda, a new series of chairs designed by Shanghai-based Stellar Works in collaboration with American design studio BassamFellows. The design is inspired by an East meets West sensibility with café chairs from the 19th century in Vienna and the café culture from the 1920s in Shanghai. The chair comes completely flat packed with only six parts: a curved seat, a rounded back, and four legs.
The Pagoda is named for its cantilevered, upward curving arms and back that pays homage to pagoda gates in Asia. The design has an elegant, modern form that?s defined by the architectural backrest and angled legs. It?s also available in a variety of finishes to match different styles and spaces, including wood (oak or walnut), metal (polished or gold anodized aluminum), and a cane or upholstered seat (in leather or textile).
