Thanks to designer Aura Scaringi, our team was introduced to kokedama back in 2011. These beautiful Japanese moss balls were the inspiration for Aura’s DIY project. By combining pea soil and akedama (a clay bonsai soil), Aura made this lush hanging for our readers and inspired so many people to create their own. Our DIY column introduced me to so many concepts and traditions and I’m so grateful for this one. To this day, whenever I see these hanging in the window of a floral shop or nursery, I always say to myself, “Kokedama!” xo, Grace #5: “Kokedama” String Garden
