Back when we first toured artist Bari Ackerman?s home in Scottsdale, AZ last year, she shared with us a dream about eventually updating her family?s kitchen. There wasn?t anything disastrously wrong with it, but it was 22 years old and not exactly Bari — if you?ve seen the rest of her house you?ll get the gist. The space simply longed for a few practical updates and needed to represent its fun, energetic and color-loving owners. With that in mind, Bari set out to design the kitchen she had longed for. To kick off the design process, Bari began freely pinning anything and everything she liked or felt drawn to. She then went back to her pinboard to find the through-line, to identify the style, items, and ideas that she had pinned over and over. She then deleted anything that didn?t quite fit the bill ? what was left was the backbone of the new kitchen design, bursting of personality and bold charm.
Bari?s design research quickly revealed that the kitchen was going to include black, white and green with a touch of warm wood tones. Black became the cabinet color and white was incorporated as thick marble countertops and a large farmhouse sin...
