Hands down, we can easily say that the biggest improvement our Tree House has seen to date is the refinishing of the original Douglas fir floors. You might remember that although the floors initially topped our list as one of our favorite items the home had to offer, the more we lived with them, the more we realized they needed quite a bit of polish to truly shine. And so, with a baby on the way and the holidays around the corner, we made the decision to hire out the job. It was well worth every penny (we even broke it down for you in this post!), and the now natural color of the Douglas fir brightens ? and perhaps most importantly, unifies ? every room. During the refinishing process, we put our trust in the professionals. We knew we wanted to knock down the red tone of the floors, the color a result of a combination of two things: 1| a prior finish job done sloppily and 2| an oil-based polyurethane that had yellowed over time.
