When coffee lovers meet bike aficionados.

It was only a matter of time before coffee and bicycles converged in one, trendy LA space. ?We want to take two things that are typically very intimidating – bicycles and coffee – and make them approachable and fun,” describes Chase Spenst. He and his wife, Tami Spenst, are the husband and wife team behind The Wheelhouse, a full service bicycle shop and barista-led coffee shop in Los Angeles’ Arts district.

Design was at the forefront of this space. With the aim to bring people together, The Wheelhouse built a coffee bar that was completely customized, with sleek black facades and steel countertops. The coffee part of the shop features top-of-the-line equipment and includes a food program during weekend and evening hours.
The design also centers around preserving the original, industrial space. The exposed beam and concrete are warmed up with rich leathers and vintage elements, creating a layered, textural experience.

Roll-up garage doors open up to the outdoor patio, where there’s ample seating for patrons to enjoy the sunny California weather.

The open mezzanine offers a bird’s-eye view of the space, and is also where the full service department is.

Found furniture sits side-by-side with new furniture, imbibing the space with a storied atmosphere.
