I didn’t used to think that what kind of mattress you had mattered. I was (delusionally) under the impression that you could just have any old mattress and it wouldn’t make much of a difference. And so, for the past 5.5 years, my husband and I spent many a sleepless night on a hard uncomfortable mattress. That we got off Craigslist. Yup. (And ew.) We tried what we could to make it more comfortable by adding a 4-inch thick foam pad from Costco. 4 INCHES. And yet, we could still feel that horrible 28909043XXX firm mattress beneath us. Very much a Princess and the Pea scenario. And yet, we suffered through.
