French women love an espadrille.
So do I, especially with a wedge. It is a comfortable way to wear a heel and gain height, especially in the summer when feet are hot and swelling is not unfamiliar.
Emmanuelle Alt, pictured above, has the height to wear the flat-out flat espadrilles; most French women I see on the streets choose a wedge. After their sneakers and ballet flats, the espadrille must be the next most favourite summer shoe of the French woman.
Espadrilles have hit the big time again this year; last year Chanel knocked it out of the park with their two-tone espadrille and this year Gucci and Valentino have brought the espadrille to new adorned levels.
Here’s the thing. The Gucci and Valentino numbers are amazing but I don’t feel like spending so generously on my espadrilles. I am very happy with a classic pair in a neutral or a colour to wear every day. I can have three pairs to one designer pair and therein lays my temptation.
What I might do is decorate a plain pair myself. Why not"
How cute would they look with a badge or even a stitched monogram" I will definitely try something on these.
Last weekend it was hot and sunny in Paris and the espadrilles were walked out in force.
I saw many cropped pants and jeans worn with the espadrille; they looked very cute. The height of the wedge slims the leg; the flat style look...
