On New Year’s Eve, a friend asked if I was looking forward to the new year. I replied with a smile and a yes, but as I said it aloud, it must have sounded like a question; there was a lot more yes" and a little less yes! I caught my inflection as the word was coming out of my mouth, and I explained that, for once, I felt like I didn’t know what this new year would look like. As a girl that loves a plan, I didn’t have one. It felt scary. The next morning, I shared with Scott how I was feeling, and he agreed that, yes(!), 2017 holds some uncertainty. For the last several years, we’ve kicked off January eyeballs deep in large renovations. We’ve had to-dos to tackle and adventures in the making, and most weekends began with ideas in need of sketching and a notebook full of scrambled lists to decode.
This year, our lists are lighter, with a few more maybes and we’ll sees. We talked about the weeks and months ahead of us, and as we noodled on those empty pockets on our calendar, I realized, hey, that’...
