LG OLED Lounge at Frieze NY 2024 Showcases a Master of Korean Abstract Art
LG OLED partners with Frieze NY to bring five works by influential Korean abstract artist Kim Whanki to life across their digital canvas.
A solo presentation of Kim Whanki, We Meet Again in New York, will be on view at the LG OLED Lounge at Frieze New York 2024 from May 1st through 5th, showcasing five digital expressions of his works shown across an LG Signature OLED M 4K television, complementing 27 original artworks on loan from the Whanki Museum that include personal items such as diaries, photographs, and letters from the artist.
Renown for his lyrical ?all-over dot? style and abstractions derived from nature, Whanki’s influence is still felt across generations of abstract painters in Korea since his passing in 1974, including Korean American video art luminary, Nam June Paik. Duet 22-IV-74 #331 (1974) Digital Expression of Whanki’s painting, 2023 (C) Whanki Foundation. Whanki Museum
Noting Whanki’s enduring sway across the abstract art world within Korea, the artist’s works find a new canvas across LG?s self-illuminated 4K, 120Hz OLED television display, with five digital expressions created by a new generation of Korean multimedia artists: Je Baak, professor at Seoul National University College of Fine Arts; Verseday, a media art creator group; Mano Ahn, CEO of Ahn Graphics; and Jason Kim, CEO of BESIGN.
