Solar Heating – Direct Pickup and Indirect Collection of the Solar Radiation
A bioclimatic architect has a sharp an smart point when he starts to project a building making it as a great “thermal machine”. That means the building will be able to capture, accumulate, distribute and conserve the solar energy that naturally falls on it. There are numerous existing elements of solar energy that makes it capture every sunlight (solar photovoltaic panels, thermal panels …) here we focus on so-called passive systems. These systems are integrated in the building, they are part of the architecture. It may be a brick wall, a glass enclosure, a roof … which in addition with their usual functions (structural, constructive, aesthetic …) are required to something more: to capture solar radiation and transmit it to the interior of the building.
The direct collection of the solar energy has as main inconvenience- the absolute dependence of the hours of sun, which together with the uncontrolled process of accumulation in soils and walls, can cause an irregular distribution of heat throughout the day. In order to alleviate this problem are developed the indirect profit systems. In this type of systems, the collection is done through an element that acts as a heat accumulator. From this element the heat is transferred to the interior by convection and conduction, reason why it generates, due to the thermal inertia of the terrain, a delay in the transmission and a damping in the oscillation of temperatures.
