Rafters are the series of timbers and they usually have pronounced slope which is used for supporting and covering of a roof. On the other hand, trusses are the whole frame that can consist of the posts, struts, and rafter. According to this, there is a difference between these two. When you decide to use the rafter you use dimensional lumber to support the roof. For using the trusses, you will need a bigger budget and more time to build it.  Also, you will need more time for drawing and planning the trusses.
