Mecanoo has breathed new life into Perth’s former City Hall, transforming it into the Perth Museum. This project honors the building’s storied Edwardian history while incorporating contemporary design elements. A Journey Through History The project began in 2017, with Mecanoo diving deep into Perth’s rich heritage. The architectural team recognized the potential of the dilapidated structure, once a vibrant concert venue. They approached the renovation like skilled artisans, balancing preservation with innovation at every step.
Innovative Architectural Interventions
A defining element of the design is the introduction of a Vennel, a symbolic passage that enhances connectivity within the museum. This corridor links the Main Hall and the Lesser Hall, featuring striking bronze doors crafted in Black Isle. This architectural feature pays tribute to Scotland’s craftsmanship and enhances the visitor experience.
