Lap Length and Length Development with their Differences
Lap length is the length of the overlap of bar required to safely transfer stress from one bar to another. Lap lengthis can be different in case of tension and compression zones and mainly depends on grade of concrete and steel. If two different dia bars need to be lapped, lap length is based on smaller dia.
Lap Length and Development Length Difference
A development length is the amount of rebar length that is needed to be embedded or projected into concrete to create a desired bond strength between the two materials. The lap length is the length two rebar pieces must overlap and be tied together to create a bond as if there was no break and the run is “continuous”.
